World’s First AI Safety Summit in UK
World’s maiden Artificial Intelligence Safety Summit took place recently in the United Kingdom. Among several countries, India, US, France, and Singapore also participated in the event.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, represented the nation at this two-day event. Hosted at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire, the summit brought together leaders from Governments, academia, and AI companies to discuss and identify risks and opportunities in the AI sector and emphasize the necessity for international collaboration.
Prominent figures such as Elon Musk and Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, were among the attendees. The summit's agenda included addressing potential risks to national security and societal concerns, like election interference and diminished social trust.
At the meeting, 28 countries released the ‘Bletchley Declaration’ asking for international co-operation. Chandrasekhar engaged in discussions about ‘Frontier AI risks’ and participated in conversations about establishing a collaborative framework for AI among like-minded nations. The summit aimed to highlight the transformative potential of AI while focusing on education and international research collaborations in the field.
