Toyota India Exports e-Drive Components to Japan, Promotes ‘Make in India’
Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts (TKAP), Bengaluru, has started exporting e-Drive components, a vital part of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) electrified powertrains, to Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand. HEV drive systems use the e-Drive to turn electricity into power.
TKAP, a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corp (Japan), Aisin Seiki Co (Japan), and Kirloskar Systems Ltd (India), makes axles, propeller shafts, and transmissions for Toyota in India and worldwide. The exported e-Drive is utilized in the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, but it is only 50 percent localized in value terms.
Local suppliers are improving subcomponent quality for the company. e-Drive exports to Japan enhance the ‘Make in India’ initiative. KN Prasad, Managing Director, TKAP, stated that the SOPs for the Auto Sector Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme will increase local production and reduce imports. With the PLI scheme, applicants can apply for testing and certification of advanced automotive technology products to qualify for incentives under the PLI Auto plan, boosting India’s exports of high-end automotive technology components.
