Telangana to Get Three New Airports in Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Warangal
Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), G Kishan Reddy, stated that the Union Government is willing to extend its cooperation to build three more airports if the Telangana State Government expedites land acquisition.
The Union Minister indicated in a letter to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had submitted feasibility reports for airports in Adilabad, Warangal, and Nizamabad to the state government in June 2021.
Adilabad and Nizamabad have seen an increase in demand for airports due to their distance from the state capital. Though both Adilabad and Warangal have airstrips, a greenfield airport at Jakranpally in the Nizamabad district has been approved.
The airport and barrier removal will require 122 acres in the first phase and 175 acres in the second phase in Adilabad. Airports in Adilabad and Warangal will be developed on brownfield (existing) sites, while the airport in Nizamabad will be a greenfield project. Jakranpally will require 510 acres in the first phase and 235 acres in the second phase for the Nizamabad airport.
The Union Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has prioritized the construction of new airports. The center has already given its âin-principleâ clearance for the establishment of 21 Greenfield Airports around the country.
