Telangana Secures INR 1,500 Crore Investment in Biogas Sector

Telangana has attracted fresh investments worth INR 1,500 crore for setting up compressed biogas (CBG) production plants. The initiative involves a partnership between South Africa-based BioVest Holdings and Hyderabad-based firms Spantech Engineers Pvt Ltd (India) and EcoMax Energy (India).
As part of the agreement, the trio plans to establish 20 CBG plants across various districts in the state. The collaboration also includes a bilateral technology transfer. Spantech Engineers will manufacture and supply its biogas purification systems, BioGenie, while BioVest Holdings will provide its Herba technology—a containerized modular anaerobic digestion system known for delivering three times the usual biomethane output. Herba units will be locally produced in Hyderabad by Spantech.
EcoMax Energy will take the lead in deploying the technology across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The company aims to eventually install one CBG plant in every district. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between EcoMax and Spantech in the presence of Telangana government officials.
M Rithvik Rao, CEO and Managing Director, EcoMax Energy, said the company aims to position Telangana as a center for green energy and achieve self-reliance in compressed natural gas. Rao also mentioned that they are in the process of securing funding from European green funds and development banks to support the project.
