Telangana Approves 88 STSDF Projects Totaling INR 156 Cr
Telangana government has approved the development of 211 km of BT roads in 16 constituencies under the Scheduled Tribes Special Development Fund (STSDF) to develop Tandas (tribal habitations). 88 works were sanctioned at INR 156.60 crore. K Chandrashekar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana, made a historic move to empower Scheduled Tribe (ST) groups politically, realizing the tribals’ long-standing desire for ‘Maa Thandalo Maa Rajyam’ (My home, my rule).
The Government constituted Gram Panchayats from Thandas and Gudems with populations over 500, making 3,146 Thandas and Gudems Panchayats. Thousands of Adivasi, Lambadi, and Tribal youngsters became Sarpanchs and Ward members in local body elections. Political transformation in Tanda Gram Panchayats enabled indigenous participation in Government.
The Panchayats grew because the Government allocated enough funds and spent them on their overall development. Each Gram Panchayat building received INR 20 lakh from the Government. The Government authorized 1,650 tribal welfare agency positions. 2,500 km of roads for 1,287 ST Panchayats have been approved for INR 1,385 crore.
