Simpliforge Creations and IIT Hyderabad Build Largest 3D Printed Barrack for Indian Army
Simpliforge Creations Pvt Ltd, a Telangana-based multidisciplinary technology and product development company, has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and the Military Engineer Services (MES) to construct Madhya Pradesh’s first 3D printed barracks at Morar Cantonment, Gwalior.
Major General KTG Krishnan, General Officer Commanding, Shahbaaz Division, officially inaugurated the barrack. The IIT Hyderabad team provided design analysis and structural validation, while Simpliforge Creations Pvt Ltd managed the design and construction.
This innovative project combines traditional and modern construction techniques and is designed to house 14 soldiers while providing effective housing solutions for troops stationed in remote locations. Dhruv Gandhi, Co-Founder and CEO, Simpliforge Creations Pvt Ltd, noted that while the foundation was built using conventional methods, the above-ground portion, standing 10 ft tall, was entirely 3D printed within a month.
Gandhi explained that the foundation work required about two weeks, including time for construction and curing, while the slab and finishing took just over two weeks. He added that the overall cost was approximately 20 percent higher than conventional methods due to the use of advanced technology.
