RSP India Opens First Manufacturing Facility in Chennai

Scandinavian Robot Systems India Pvt Ltd (RSP India), a subsidiary of Sweden-based Robot System Products AB (RSP), has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in Chennai. The new plant aims to localize production, reduce costs, and establish India as a key manufacturing hub for South Asia’s robotics sector.
RSP, headquartered in Västerås, Sweden, has operated independently for over two decades after being part of ABB Group’s robotics division. The company specializes in peripheral equipment for industrial robots, focusing on six-axis articulated robots. Its signature tool changer increases robot adaptability, allowing for seamless tool changes during tasks such as drilling and welding.
“We offer solutions like tool changers, swivels for continuous rotation, and customized hose packages that simplify robot integration,” said Arvind Vasu, Managing Director, Scandinavian Robot Systems India Pvt Ltd. He emphasized that the company’s plug-and-play systems minimize costly automation downtime.
The Chennai facility will initially produce dress packs, including automatic tool changers, swivels, and cable and hose management solutions. RSP plans to expand production by leveraging local supplier partnerships.
“This facility is central to our growth in India,” said Eddie Eriksson, President, Robot System Products AB. “Local production allows us to customize products faster, improve customer service, and strengthen our presence in South Asia.”
RSP primarily supplies system integrators and line builders in industries like automotive, general manufacturing, and electronics. India’s robotics market has surged, with annual consumption rising from 4,000 robots pre-pandemic to 8,500 in 2023, with forecasts exceeding 10,000 units in 2024.
