OYO Summer Vacation Index Reveals 92 Percent of Indians Opt for Domestic Travel
OYO, a global travel technology company, has released its Summer Vacation Index 2023, revealing that 82 percent of Indians plan to travel this summer, indicating a significant travel revival. The fact that 92 percent of passengers chose domestic locations despite COVID-19 travel restrictions highlights the continued trend of rediscovering India's beauty. 34 percent of respondents plan to travel in early June, followed by 19 percent in late May. This summer, 59 percent of travelers want leisure and rejuvenation, while 19 percent want intriguing and adventurous activities, and 34 percent favor family vacations over friend vacations. Over 51 percent of travelers prefer staycations of 1-3 days, and 9 percent are planning solo getaways.
Mountains beat beaches 30 percent to 26 percent, with Manali, Kashmir, Mcleod Ganj, Ooty, and Coorg as prominent mountain getaways. Kerala, Pondicherry, Andaman Nicobar, and Gokarna are also prominent. 27 percent and 23 percent of travelers voted for unusual destinations, Mawlynnong in Meghalaya and Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. 16 percent of voters chose Kerala’s Valiyaparamba. The Maldives, Switzerland, Dubai, Thailand, and Indonesia are the top overseas destinations for Indian tourists. The survey shows that spontaneity is crucial, with 41 percent of respondents booking their vacations within the same week and 24 percent deciding a week prior.
