Ministry of Tourism Unveils Strategic Initiatives for North Eastern Region
The Ministry of Tourism is pushing tourism in the North Eastern Region through Swadesh Darshan, PRASHAD, Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development, Domestic Promotion and Publicity, including Hospitality (DPPH), and more. Special initiatives include funding a MICE Convention Centre in Aizawl, highway View Points, 15 Swadesh Darshan 2.0 sites, and International Tourism Marts.
Awareness and annual events like Swacchta Pakhwada promote cleanliness at tourist places under the Swachhta Action Plan. The ministry works with the Ministry of Civil Aviation on RCS-UDAN to increase regional aviation connectivity at low cost. Various states have employed tourist police as part of efforts to create dedicated Tourism Police.
The ministry established a 24x7 Multi-Lingual Tourist Info-Helpline and the ‘Code of Conduct for Safe & Honourable Tourism’ to promote respectful travel. In Lok Sabha, G Kishan Reddy, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region of India, announced these tourism measures to demonstrate the Government’s commitment.
