Meliá Named Europe’s Most Sustainable Hotel Group

Meliá Hotels International has been ranked Europe’s most sustainable hotel company and second worldwide in the 2025 list of the World’s 500 Most Sustainable Companies, published by TIME magazine in partnership with Statista. The recognition depicts Meliá Hotels long-term commitment to responsible tourism. It is ranked with over 20 performance indicators in areas of environmental action, social responsibility, and transparent governance. It also shows how the firm is aligned with the global sustainability goals, including UN Global Compact and Science-Based Targets.

The fact that Meliá’s incorporation in this world ranking, which has been consistent, reinforces its leadership in sustainable hospitality. This Spanish hotel group has already implemented sustainability into its strategy, with a Digital Maturity Index of 71.2, covering everything related to energy & water conservation, local community support, and plastic waste reduction. For Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, Chairman & CEO, Meliá Hotels International, sustainability is not a separate initiative, and this very recognition fuels their mission to build a hotel model that’s resilient, responsible, and future-ready.

Meliá is also leading Spain in terms of ESG responsibility, as per Merco (Corporate Reputation Business Monitor), and ranks among the top three sustainable tourism companies in the world in view of the S&P Global index. The hotel has also implemented green programs right from hotel operations to community partnerships and is also focused on large-scale visions of what tourism can be, both to people and to the planet. Due to the rising interest in sustainable travel, it is demonstrating how hospitality as a sector can drive meaningful change.
