India’s Steel Decarbonization Efforts at METEC
METEC India is scheduled to take place from November 27-29, 2024, at Bombay Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) in Mumbai, alongside wire India, Tube India, and INDIA ESSEN WELDING & CUTTING—the largest metal trade fair in India.
Organized by Messe Düsseldorf India Pvt Ltd, the event is set to attract over 600 exhibitors from 22 countries, presenting the latest technologies and products for metal processing. METEC India Conference will be held on November 29 and will focus on India’s steel industry decarbonization targets by 2047. Rising to become one of the world's most powerful steel sectors, India attributes its growth to robust infrastructure development and economic policies.
Transitioning to greener production methods, India is emphasizing renewable energy, hydrogen-based technologies, and recycling to achieve its net-zero target by 2070. Companies like Tata Steel, JSW Steel, and Jindal Steel & Power are taking on the task of cutting emissions through innovative measures such as carbon capture and green hydrogen. Plans for a renewable-energy-driven steel plant from Adani Group further reiterate the commitment towards sustainability by the sector. Although coal dependence poses challenges, India’s steel industry is pushing boundaries through innovation and partnerships with international companies for a more sustainable future, setting an example for global decarbonization efforts.
