India’s Aerospace Sector Reaches New Heights with TATA Aircraft Complex Inauguration
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain, inaugurated the TATA Aircraft Complex, Vadodara, Gujarat, recently. This event marked the beginning of C-295 aircraft manufacturing in India.
Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister, Government of India, highlighted that the C-295 project represents a landmark achievement, as it is the first complete military aircraft manufactured domestically by a private company. He noted that this project would significantly enhance the country’s growing aerospace sector.
TATA Advanced Systems Ltd, in collaboration with Airbus, a major player in Spain’s aerospace industry, launched the final assembly line plant for the C-295 aircraft as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Previously, India signed a contract with Airbus in 2021 for 56 C-295 transport aircraft in total, with 16 to be supplied from Spain and 40 to be produced at the Vadodara facility. The new facility is expected to deliver the first C-295 transport plane by September 2026, with the remaining 40 aircraft expected to be completed by August 2031.
During his visit, Sanchez also engaged with trade leaders and addressed the 4th Spain India Forum, which aims to foster collaboration between the two nations in the media and entertainment sectors. This visit marks Sanchez’s first trip to India in 18 years.
