Indian Railways Sees 9 Percent Growth in Coach Production

Indian Railways has recorded a 9 percent increase in coach production for FY 2024-25, manufacturing 7,134 coaches as compared to the 6,541 coaches manufactured in the previous year. The Ministry of Railways, Government of India, highlighted that 4,601 of these were non-air-conditioned coaches, produced to meet the needs of common passengers and the general public.
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, led the output with 3,007 coaches, up from 2,829 in 2023-24. Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala, Punjab, followed with 2,102 coaches, an increase from 1,901, while Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, produced 2,025, rising from 1,684.
This increase supports key government goals, including ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ vision and the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The focus remains on energy-efficient, modern, and passenger-friendly coaches to meet growing demand.
