India Tops San Francisco’s Tourism Growth Recovery Chart
San Francisco, known as the ‘Golden Gate City’, is setting its sights on India as one of its leading sources of tourism recovery following the pandemic’s impact on the industry.
The San Francisco Travel Association has identified India as one of its fastest-growing source markets, with 158,000 visitors in 2022, ranking third among overseas visitor markets. It's projected to grow by 34 percent in 2023, with a spending increase of 63 percent, solidifying India as one of the destination's fastest-growing source markets.
Indian tourists visiting friends and family in Silicon Valley boost this growth. The city aims to turn business travelers into leisure tourists. Air travel has increased in India due to rising earnings, boosting local and international tourism. With 186 percent more passengers than pre-pandemic, Air India’s extended flight network from San Francisco to Indian locations has contributed to this rise. San Francisco International Airport is committed to strengthening its partnership with key stakeholders and airlines, such as Air India, to offer visitors exceptional services and unique airport experiences.
