India Launches MedTech Mitra: Helping Startups Transform Medtech
Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, recently launched MedTech Mitra, an online site to boost India’s medtech sector. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) under NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission launched the site to help medtech entrepreneurs with clinical review, regulatory facilitation, and product acceptance.
Dr Mandaviya underlined the relevance of medical devices in India’s healthcare and the Government’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ initiative to transform healthcare by 2047. He envisions a US$ 50 billion medtech sector in India by 2030 as the collaborative enterprise produces affordable, high-quality medtech gadgets, ending import dependence.
MedTech Mitra’s introduction corresponds with the National Medical Device Policy, showing Government support for pharmaceutical and medtech innovation. India is Asia’s fourth-largest medical equipment manufacturer, although it only owns 1.5 percent of the global market. The Government aims to close this gap with strategic programs and collaborative platforms like MedTech Mitra.
