India Competence Center Launched in Düsseldorf to Boost Bilateral Ties

Düsseldorf has taken a major step to strengthen its economic ties with India through the establishment of the India Competence Center Düsseldorf (IKD). Formed jointly by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the City of Düsseldorf, and Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, the center was established to support companies planning to expand between the two regions.

The IKD will help German businesses thrive in India and support Indian companies and professionals showing interest in the Düsseldorf region. It also utilizes key networks like the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and the Indian Consulate in Frankfurt.

Andreas Schmitz, President, IHK Düsseldorf, spoke on the importance of the initiative, noting, “We’re helping companies expand strategically in India—this strengthens our regional economy during uncertain geopolitical times.”

Dr Stephan Keller, Mayor, the City of Düsseldorf, highlighted the city’s growing connection with India. “India is a key partner. Our agreement with Karnataka and the rise in Indian companies and professionals here reflect Düsseldorf’s appeal,” he expressed.

Wolfram N Diener, President & CEO, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, pointed to trade fairs as vital tools. “Trade fairs open doors to new markets. With IKD, we want more Indian exhibitors and visitors at our events.”

The center will be led by Ferdinand Schlechta, with support from Bettina Löhr and Felix Fröhlich of the Economic Development Office.
