Hilti India’s Vadodara Plant Becomes First in Country to Earn DGNB Gold

Hilti Manufacturing India has created history as its Vadodara plant becomes the first industrial facility in the nation to be awarded the highly-regarded DGNB Gold Certification by the non-profit German Sustainable Building Council—Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB). This recognition is a new benchmark for India’s sustainable industrial infrastructure and demonstrates Hilti’s deep commitment to responsible construction practices.
Built around the three pillars of DGNB—economy, ecology, and sociocultural impact—the plant incorporates state-of-the-art energy-efficient systems, environmentally friendly systems, and systems that ensure the well-being of the employees. The facility includes a smart HVAC system based on chilled beams and radiant floor cooling, a 1500 MWh photovoltaic system, and a zero-discharge water management system ensuring 100 percent water recycling. The energy use is further optimized with passive cooling features and a centralized building management platform.
The Miyawaki forest on-site occupies a quarter of the entire area, which enhances biodiversity. The architecture incorporates inclusivity features such as accessible restrooms & workspaces and wellness amenities such as childcare, fitness and yoga zones, and gender-neutral design.
Giridhar Jambunathan, Director & Chief Executive Officer, Hilti Manufacturing India, stated, “From the outset, our goal with the Vadodara plant was to go beyond compliance and set a new benchmark for industrial construction in India.” On a parallel note, Johannes Kreißig, Managing Director of the DGNB, remarked, “With the successful completion of DGNB certification in India and Hungary, Hilti has demonstrated that they set high standards for holistic sustainable construction in building its own facilities worldwide.”
