Gujarat’s Dhordo Village Earns UNWTO’s Best Tourism Village 2023 Title
Dhordo, a village in Gujarat’s Kutch district, has achieved international recognition as it was honored with the prestigious title of ‘Best Tourism Village 2023’ by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) during the award ceremony held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan lately.
This recognition positions Dhordo among the 70 villages hailing from nearly 40 countries that share this esteemed distinction. Dhordo, the birthplace of the celebrated Rann Utsav in 2005, is now a name recognized globally.
The accolade acknowledges villages that excel in rural development, preservation of their natural landscape, cultural heritage, diversity, local traditions, and culinary heritage. Dhordo successfully met all the criteria, impressive with its cultural and natural resources, conservation efforts, economic sustainability, social stability, environmental responsibility, tourism potential, development, and value chain integration. Dhordo’s recognition is a source of pride and joy, showcasing the village’s significance, especially as the gateway to the captivating Rann of Kutch, a breathtaking salt desert spanning 27,454 sq km, known for its ethereal beauty under the moonlight.
