Goa to Promote Cultural Heritage Tourism
Goa, a popular beach destination, is expanding its tourism offerings beyond its coastal charm. The state strives to showcase its rich culture, heritage, festivals, history, culinary delights, and sustainable tourism practices to both domestic and international markets.
Shri Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics, and Communications, Government of Goa, emphasized the need to promote these diverse offerings. Recently, Goa initiated a ‘regenerative tourism’ model with the Ekadasha Teertha campaign, which focused on 11 spiritual sites and involved local communities, especially women and youth, for employment and cultural promotion.
The state aims to establish itself as a year-round destination by partnering with MakeMyTrip Pvt Ltd, a leading OTA in India. The company will ensure that lesser-known aspects of Goa, such as cultural heritage, festivals, homestays, and culinary traditions, are promoted for a trip.
Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder & CEO, MakeMyTrip Pvt Ltd, expressed the company’s commitment to providing unique travel experiences and ensuring sustainable tourism practices. As a symbol of environmental conservation in tourism, MakeMyTrip collaborates with the government to use over 500,000 single-use plastic bottles for a public art display.
