Carl Zeiss to Build Major Lens Factory in Bengaluru
German medical technology and lenses company, Carl Zeiss, is investing INR 2,500 crore to establish one of its largest lens manufacturing plants in Bengaluru, India. This new facility will substantially boost production, operating at five times the capacity of its current Bangalore site. The company is also working on improving its research and development efforts in the country, with an additional focus on creating global solutions.
Miguel G Diaz, Managing Director, Carl Zeiss India Pvt Ltd, admired the country’s appeal as a business destination due to its fast-growing economy but also acknowledged challenges in finding skilled labor.
The company plans to double its workforce in the country over the next two and a half years, from the current 2,200 employees. The new plant will support the production of various lenses and devices, with a significant portion serving international markets including the US, Germany, South Korea, China, Australia, Philippines, Russia, UAE, and Brazil, among others.
