Bhutan Ends Mandatory Travel Insurance - News

The Department of Tourism, Bhutan has announced a significant update, lifting the mandatory travel insurance requirements for tourists. Initially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, this requirement is being removed to streamline visa processing and enhance the overall travel experience for visitors. 

This decision aims to simplify travel procedures and make the process more convenient for tourists exploring Bhutan. While travel insurance is no longer mandatory for visa processing, the department advises tourists to still consider having it for added protection during international travel. 

Indian passport holders can now enjoy hassle-free travel to Bhutan, needing only an entry permit that is obtainable from the Immigration Office in Phuentsholing, Bhutan. This permit allows a 7-day stay and can be extended in Thimphu for longer visits. The country’s efforts reflect its dedication to providing a welcoming environment for tourists while ensuring safety and compliance with immigration regulations. 

The entry permit issued by Bhutan’s Immigration Department for Indian citizens is provided at no cost, making it easier for travelers to explore the country’s rich culture and natural beauty.
