Australian Food Frenzy at AAHAR India 2024
Around 23 Australian companies and 2 industry groups participated in the prestigious AAHAR - International Food & Hospitality Fair 2024 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), the 38th edition showcased Australian seafood, lamb and sheep, food ingredients, and commodities.
John Southwell, Trade and Investment Commissioner, Australia Trade and Investment Commission, highlighted that Australian food brands were targeting a market of 25-30 million consumers in India’s Tier-I and Tier-II cities. He noted that Indians who had visited Australia, including the one million Indian-origin Australian community, were already familiar with Australian brands, which had gained recognition through shows such as MasterChef Australia. This familiarity had undoubtedly led to a rising demand for Australian products in India.
The India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) has significantly increased trade in food and beverages between the two countries. Indian exports to Australia have also risen under ECTA, with substantial increases in rice, cereals, bread, ice cream, biscuits, and frozen vegetables. Brands such as Ryan Meat Company Australia, Summerfruit Australia Ltd, Frosty Boy Australia, Source Wellness Australia, and Supercharged Food – Artisanal Australia participated in AAHAR 2024, with a focus on establishing business-to-business partnerships and boosting trade.
