Apple Inc’s iPhone 16: Made-in-India to Hit Global Markets
India’s manufacturing sector is on an impressive growth trajectory, with the electronics industry at the forefront. Mobile phone exports to the US have skyrocketed from US$ 2.2 billion in FY 2022-23 to US$ 5.7 billion in FY 2024. Apple Inc has significantly contributed to this growth by assembling 14 percent of global iPhones in India and increasing the country’s global electronics export ranking by four spots.
The Made-in-India iPhone 16 series is set to debut globally within 10-12 days of its official release, with production spearheaded by Foxconn Precision Engineering Pvt Ltd in Tamil Nadu, with plans to export these models worldwide. Apple Inc’s strategy includes shifting 25 percent of its iPhone production to India by 2025, a strategic move to diversify its manufacturing base beyond China.
In a milestone achievement, the American multinational corporation will manufacture its high-end iPhone Pro and Pro Max models in India for the first time. Foxconn Precision Engineering Pvt Ltd, Pegatron Corporation, and Tata Group are preparing to assemble these premium models, primarily for export to Europe, the Middle East, and the US.
Looking ahead, Foxconn Precision Engineering Pvt Ltd is considering assembling iPads in India, indicating a significant expansion of its production capabilities. This move aligns with Apple Inc’s strategy to diversify its production regions and capitalize on the country’s growing manufacturing infrastructure.
