Telangana Govt Plans to Revitalize 50 Lakes in Hyderabad
Telangana's Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development has launched the 'Lakes Development Programme' to revive and develop 50 water bodies in and around Hyderabad. The programme was inaugurated by KT Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, at Khajaguda Lake lately. Of the 50 lakes, 25 are located in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and the remaining 25 in Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits.
The minister has handed over certificates to real estate development companies that have adopted lakes for development. The periphery of the lakes will have walking tracks, landscaping, open gyms, benches, toilets, lights for evening walks, play areas for children, gazebos, amphitheaters, and other facilities. He further added that Durgam Cheruvu turned into a huge tourist attraction after the lake was developed. The Lakes Development Programme was created for seniors and families to walk and relax. The city will have 250 km of Metro lines and electric cars. A medical devices park, another world-class film city, an international sports city, and an academic city are being expanded.
