Telangana Govt Invests INR 7,000 Cr in Food Processing, Creates 50,000 Jobs
Telangana has added a fixed capital base of INR 7,000 crore in the last five years to its food processing capacities, according to KT Rama Rao, Minister for MA&UD; Industries and Commerce; and IT E&C of Telangana. Speaking at the first edition of the Food Conclave 2023, held from April 28-29, the minister said Telangana was ushering in five revolutions, including in the agriculture sector, dairy, meat, and fisheries. The conclave is intended to become a one-stop destination in terms of food production and processing and to meet the food needs of the rest of the world, said Rao, adding that it would create 50,000 jobs.
Telangana has hosted companies including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and ITC, and is also a nutraceuticals hub, according to the minister. Telangana has doubled its livestock population, especially sheep and goats, and is on top for inland fisheries in the country, Rao stated. The state is rolling out dedicated agricultural, horticultural, veterinary, and forest universities soon, and under the state’s TS-iPASS policy, 10,000 acres of land have been acquired and will be ready to roll out to industries with packaged and customized incentives, he added.
