Tech Mahindra and Mahindra University to Set Up Metaverse and Quantum Computing Labs
Tech Mahindra and Mahindra University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a new ‘Makers Lab’ for research and development in quantum computing, explainable artificial intelligence (AI), and the Metaverse. Tech Mahindra already operates ten Makers Labs throughout the world, and the new unit at Mahindra University will be the 11th and second in Hyderabad.
As part of the partnership, Mahindra University students will have the option to work on intellectual assets created at the Makers Lab and have them deployed in R&D projects on campus. Students will also work with university coding groups such as ‘Engima’ to gain access to projects, internships, and employment opportunities.
CP Gurnani, CEO & MD, Tech Mahindra stated that the industry is facing a data explosion, with growth in cloud computing, data centers, and 5G driving the transformation in the current computing system, emphasizing the need to focus on quantum computing development.
To this added, Yajulu Medury, Mahindra University Vice Chancellor, “One of the best things about the MoU is that it’s an academia-industry partnership. The faculty can now engage with Tech Mahindra Makers Lab and others to take on more industry-oriented work.”
Nikhil Malhotra, Global Head for Makers Lab, Tech Mahindra, highlighted that quantum computing is in its infancy and that the Lab will focus on quantum’s effect on satellite image optimization and explainable AI in partnership with Mahindra University.
