Singapore Tourism Board’s Green Initiatives
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has introduced several initiatives to enhance sustainability in the meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) sector, fortifying its status as a ‘World’s Best MICE City’. Key efforts include the Legacy Toolkit, a Singapore MICE Industry Carbon and Waste Baselining Study that aims for carbon-neutral participation at international tradeshows.
The Legacy Toolkit assists event organizers in designing impactful business events. It includes case studies and encourages collaboration with local organizations like the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Center. Additionally, the MICE Industry Carbon and Waste Baseline exercise establishes sustainability metrics focusing on energy, water, and waste. This data helps STB monitor and update carbon emission baselines, fostering waste reduction and decarbonization strategies.
According to Yap Chin Siang, Deputy Chief Executive, STB, these initiatives aim to guide the MICE industry toward sustainability and provide practical means for event organizers to create lasting benefits in Singapore.
The board also targets carbon-neutral participation at major international MICE events starting in 2024, including IMEX Frankfurt, IMEX America, and IBTM World. These efforts showcase the country’s commitment to sustainable practices in the MICE sector.
