Plukon Food Group Improves Poultry Safety with Advanced Metal Detection

Metal detection in poultry production presents a significant challenge due to the high conductivity of poultry products, often leading to false rejects and product waste. To address this issue, Plukon Food Group, an internationally active corporate group in the meat industry, has integrated the Mitus® metal detector from Minebea Intec, a leading manufacturer of industrial weighing and inspection technologies, utilizing MiWave technology to improve detection accuracy while reducing unnecessary rejections.

Food safety regulations, particularly Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines, impose strict measures in poultry production due to its minimal processing steps. Metal detection is an important part of these safety protocols, but traditional systems struggle with poultry’s unique electromagnetic properties, resulting in inaccurate detections and increased product wastage.

To overcome these issues, Plukon sought a more precise and efficient solution. The Mitus® metal detector, designed to detect even the smallest metal contaminants, ensures higher accuracy and enhanced food safety. Additionally, its hygienic design simplifies the frequent cleaning required in poultry processing.

Since implementing Mitus®, Plukon has minimized false rejections, reducing product loss and improving operational efficiency. The system also guarantees compliance with HACCP standards, assuring the company and consumers of product quality and safety.

Jeroen V, Maintenance Manager, Plukon Food Group, highlighted the benefits, stating, “We’ve faced many challenges with false rejects over the past few years, so I’m really pleased to have these new metal detectors on our lanes. They not only save us time and reduce costs but also allow my hardworking team to stay focused on what truly matters.”
