National Green Hydrogen Mission Gains Momentum
India’s transition to green hydrogen as a key energy source accelerates in 2024 as the Government finalizes the first batch of National Green Hydrogen Mission firms. The mission involves 21 electrolyser manufacturers and 14 green hydrogen generators to reach 5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) by 2030.
The Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme (Tranche-I) took a major stride forward on December 15, 2023, when the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) issued a list of electrolyser manufacturing (EM) bidders. Several companies, like John Cockerill Greenko Hydrogen Solutions, Adani New Industries, and Reliance Electrolyser Manufacturing, strive for large capacities.
Reliance Green Hydrogen, Avaada GreenH2, Greenko ZeroC, and ACME Cleantech Solutions are among 14 firms proposing 551,730 metric tons of green hydrogen production capacity. In January 2023, the National Green Hydrogen Mission allocated INR 19,744 crore for the SIGHT program, pilot projects, R&D, and other mission components. The mission seeks large investments, jobs, fossil fuel reduction, and greenhouse gas reduction.
