NAREDCO Telangana Takes a Step Towards Bridging Skill Gap in Construction Industry
NAREDCO Telangana Real Estate Developers Association (formerly TREDA) recently launched the National Initiative for Promotion of Upskilling of Nirman workers (NIPUN) at Muppa’s Melody in Osman Nagar, Hyderabad, to improve construction workers’ skills. The NIPUN program was inaugurated by S Devendar Reddy, Chief City Planner, GHMC, in the presence of B Sunil Chandra Reddy, President, NAREDCO Telangana, and other dignitaries.
The construction industry employs 75 million people and is slated to become the largest employer by 2022; however, skilled labor is likewise scarce. 45 million qualified people are needed in real estate and construction over the next decade, and hence, formal worker training programs are needed.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) launched NIPUN to skill over one lakh construction workers through a network of industry partners and Sector Skill Councils (SSC) in one year. NAREDCO and Prabhodita are project implementation agencies and training partners for the NIPUN project.
