Musashi Auto Parts India Begins Mass Production of EV Two-Wheeler E-Axles

A major milestone in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing was reached as Musashi Auto Parts India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Musashi Seimitsu Industries - Japan, began mass production of e-axles for two-wheelers at its Bangalore facility. Furthermore, the production kicked off with a line-off ceremony. Initially, the facility will produce 10,000 e-axles monthly, with plans to scale up in the third year.

Designed to be compact, lightweight, and quiet, these e-axles aim to enhance the performance and range of EV two-wheelers. Naoya Nishimura, CEO-India & Africa Region, Musashi Auto Parts India Pvt Ltd, emphasized the importance of this step in advancing EV adoption in the country, highlighting the need for a local EV component ecosystem. He noted that their state-of-the-art production lines would boost efficiency and output. An investment of INR 160 crore is being made in the first phase of the company’s EV business, including setting up new assembly lines and upgrading current facilities.

The company entered the Indian EV market in September 2023 through a joint venture with Delta Electronics, Inc and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, forming Musashi Delta e-Axle India Pvt Ltd, with Musashi holding a 51 percent stake. This venture aims to produce and sell e-axles for two-wheelers in India, Africa, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) markets. Additionally, the company is working with BNC Motors to develop EV drive units for a new 125-cc equivalent scooter.
