India to Manufacture Apple Inc’s iPhone 16 Pro Models for Global Release
Apple Inc. is set to make a significant shift by manufacturing the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models in India from the start. This plan aims to have the ‘Made in India’ iPhones available for purchase globally on their release date.
Traditionally, the company’s production has been concentrated in China and handled by major partners like Foxconn Precision Engineering Pvt Ltd, Pegatron Corp, and Wistron Corp. This new strategy signals a shift in Apple’s manufacturing paradigm, reflecting a broader trend of diversifying production capabilities. The iPhone 16 Pro models could become the first ‘Pro’ variants assembled in India, thanks to Apple’s collaboration with local manufacturers.
Foxconn’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu is expected to lead this initiative. The process, known as the New Product Introduction (NPI), will guide the models from design to full-scale production. Apple’s efforts to expand its manufacturing footprint in India began with the iPhone SE in 2017.
Recent models, including the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, were manufactured in India from launch. The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to be the first premium ‘Pro’ models produced outside of China, marking a historic milestone for Apple.
