India Set to Boost Adventure Tourism with Country-wide Ranking of States and UTs
The Indian Government plans to launch an adventure tourism rating system for States and Union Territories in order to boost the country’s fledgling industry. The rankings will take into account seven aspects, including each State’s infrastructure, safety, capacity building, and training capacities. The ranking system’s goal is to generate competition among State Governments and urge them to work proactively to enhance adventure tourism. The rankings are likely to be examined and approved soon at a meeting of the Tourism Secretary’s National Board of Adventure Tourism.
The Indian adventure tourism business was valued at US $0.3 billion in 2019 and is expected to exceed US $2 billion by 2028, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 20 percent. The Tourism Ministry had previously developed a National Strategy for Adventure Tourism, which advocated a state rating. India is considered a sunshine sector for adventure tourism based on its significant geographical advantages, such as 70 percent of the Himalayas and 7,000 km of coastline.
