India Emerges as a Rising Market for International Tourism Post-Pandemic
Tourism Boards of various countries are recognizing the growing trend of Indian travelers exploring international destinations and are, therefore, prioritizing India as one of their key source markets. Many countries in the Asia-Pacific region and the West are likely to be outpaced by the Indian market.
Some nations, such as South Korea, New Zealand, and South Africa, are making substantial investments in attracting Indian tourists and expanding to even Tier 2 cities.
Myong-kil Yun, Director (India), Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), remarked that outbound traffic from India has recovered well following the pandemic, and interest in and feedback for travel to South Korea have also been quite favorable. According to him, India is a rising market for the destination, and KTO is planning marketing measures to capitalize on this trend, which will increase the number of visitors in the future years. Last year, a total of 64,829 Indian visitors visited Korea, with KTO aiming for pre-pandemic levels by the end of this year, 1,50,000 in 2023, and 500,000 by 2026.
