IIT-H and BIACH&RI Collaborate to Launch a Medical Physics Course
IIT-Hyderabad (IIT-H) will shortly begin a three-year Master of Science (MSc) programme in medical physics in collaboration with Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI).
The programmeâs aim is to train world-class medical physicists in the concepts and techniques of applying physics in medicine. It plans to offer clinical orientation for radiation physics, clinical immersion and shadowing, industry and clinical lectures, short-term projects, and a 12-month clinical internship in the third year.
Students will benefit from the IIT-H facultyâs academic acumen as well as the instituteâs practical expertise. This program is excellent for BSc applicants who have physics as one of their main subjects and who want to pursue a career in applied physics for disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Candidates who meet these requirements can apply directly to IIT-H admissions, and their applications will be reviewed based on their qualifying degree marks. An online interview will also take place. After finishing the coursework and declaring results, students must complete 90 credits over three years, consisting of two years of course work (66 credits) and one year of mandatory medical physics and clinical internship (24 credits).
Prof BS Murty, Director, IIT-H, said: âThe MSc (Medical Physics) programme is the third PG programme in the field of healthcare at IIT-H, which, in line with the NEP (National Education Policy 2020), not only provides a strong academic background to students but also hands-on training in the form of a year-long clinical internship, which makes them industry-ready.â
