Goa Expands STEM Education with Robotics and Coding Initiative

The Government of Goa has announced the inclusion of 200 Lead Schools for the 2025-26 academic year under the Coding And Robotics Education in Schools (CARES) Scheme. This initiative aims to provide specialized learning in robotics and coding to over 20,000 students across the state. Enrollment for the elective curriculum has already begun.
The program, introduced in the government and aided schools for Classes 6 to 8, has seen significant growth over the years. In 2022-23, around 3,000 students took up the advanced curriculum in 60 Lead Schools, which increased to 7,700 students in 2023-24. The number has now surged to 11,000, showcasing a strong demand for STEM education.
Students participating in the program will attend weekly after-school sessions on coding and robotics. To ensure quality instruction, the state has recruited engineering graduates and professionals as ‘Teach for Goa’ Fellows. These instructors will lead the sessions using upgraded ICT labs and robotic hardware kits.
The curriculum focuses on hands-on learning, equipping students with practical skills in robotics and coding that are essential in today’s technology-driven world. Lead Schools, set up across various talukas, an administrative division, provide accessibility to students statewide.
Implemented by the Directorate of Technical Education, the CARES scheme is set to transform education in Goa, preparing students for careers in emerging technology fields. With increasing enrollment and upgraded resources, the initiative promises a bright future for young learners in the state.
