Drip Irrigation System to be Installed on Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road
Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, Government of Telangana, recently announced that KT Rama Rao, Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development of Telangana, has commissioned the drip irrigation system to be established along the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The project’s goal is to install a sophisticated drip irrigation system to water the plantations along the expressway. The new system is intended to reduce water consumption and costs. Drip irrigation is expected to save Hyderabad Growth Corridor Ltd (HGCL) nearly ₹37 crore in seven years while also being sustainable and environmentally friendly.
HGCL spends approximately ₹30 crore per month on watering the saplings with slow-moving water tankers. The new drip irrigation system is supposed to save 41.34 crores over the next seven years, or about 6 crores per year. The new system will be installed in three rows along the median and three rows on either side of the shoulder, for a total of nine rows on the ORR’s main carriageway.
