BlackBerry Opens IoT Center in Hyderabad to Collaborate with Global Partners on Innovation
BlackBerry’s software division is attempting to co-innovate in the automotive and technology sectors with partners such as Mercedes, Qualcomm, Bosch, and KPIT Innovations via its latest Internet of Things (IoT) hub in Hyderabad. The center will primarily push innovation between QNX’s operating systems division and Ivy’s in-vehicle software platform. It will also collaborate directly with OEMs and vehicle component manufacturers in India, such as Mercedes and Aptiv.
The cybersecurity division already has a foothold in India, with locations in Gurgaon and Bengaluru, serving enterprise clients such as banks, financial services, and ministries.
According to the company, the number of IoT devices will increase to 30.9 billion by 2025, up from 13.8 billion in 2021. It plans to hire roughly 100 engineers in India by the end of the current fiscal year for roles in cloud, embedded systems, and product engineering. In the first half of 2022, the IoT division had a 23 percent increase in revenue, and around 70 percent of its revenue comes from vehicles, with the remainder coming from other industries such as medical devices, robots, and heavy engineering.
