Intersection of Nuclear & Process Engineering

Dr DS Setty, Chairman, Indian Institution of Plant Engineers (IIPE) (TS & AP Chapter) and COPES Outstanding Scientist, Deputy Chief Executive of Nuclear Fuel Complex, DAE, GOI, delivered a keynote speech at the India Process Expo & Conference (IPEC) 2024.

The event organized by Hyderabad International Trade Expositions Ltd (HITEX) from August 16-18 at HITEX Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad, and co-located with HIMTEX and Eco Sustain Expo, was in its 3rd edition and showcased the best in the process engineering sector.

As an important figure in India’s nuclear energy program, this speech by Dr Setty vindicated process industries as always on the side that gave stimuli for industrial and technological progress, more so in the nuclear sector.

Hyderabad: Where Process Industries Power Progress
Dr Setty highlighted Hyderabad as an ideal platform for India’s process industries and commended the strong participation from process and allied sectors. He emphasized the importance of the nuclear sector, where nuclear fuel is produced for power generation in reactors across India.

Clean Tech and Cost-Efficiency to Fuel India’s Growth
Under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Dr Setty underscored the value of conferences like IPEC in fostering interactions and promoting Indian-made processes, materials, and consumables. The IPEC 2024 event attracted professionals from the pharmaceutical, engineering, chemical, and mechanical sectors.

Discussing the ‘Viksit Bharat’ theme, he emphasized on environmentally sustainable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective processes that can fuel the growth of the Indian economy. He also pointed to the deployment of clean technologies, including small modular reactors, as a way to deliver on greenhouse gas emission reductions, something that is part of India’s emission target that plans for net-zero by 2070. Alongside these, he mentioned modern concepts such as the ultra-supercritical boilers for thermal power plants to increase efficiency.

Dr Setty concluded by highlighting the event’s significance in facilitating knowledge exchange on clean energy solutions and cutting-edge technologies, which are key to achieving India’s ‘Developed India’ and net-zero ambitions.

Bigger, Better, and Brimming with Opportunity
Gaining insights from Dr Setty surely left a lasting impression on the attendees with regard to innovation, collaboration, and sustainability in the way of shaping the future of Indian industries. Related to IPEC 2025, slated for August 22-24 at HITEX Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad, the upcoming event promises to be bigger and better as a catalyst for industrial growth and a platform for exploring future technologies.
