Green Minds Are The Future

The organizers, Hyderabad International Trade Expositions Ltd (HITEX), successfully wrapped up the inaugural Eco Sustain Expo 2024 event on a high, eco-conscious note. Held at the HITEX Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad, from August 16-18, 2024, the event brought together several tech startups, showcasing products, solutions, and technologies, with a shared purpose: to create a sustainable future for all.

As awareness builds around environmental concerns and promoting a greener future, various industries are sowing the seeds of change by adopting innovative and sustainable practices. The Eco Sustain Expo 2024 highlighted the urgent need to embrace eco-sustainable practices through a unique aspect of the event, the Startup Innovation Arena.

This initiative allowed attendees to interact with visionaries—tech startups that showcased green technologies, solid waste management practices, effluent treatment, and efficient recycling strategies. Sharing a brief understanding behind this unique concept at HITEX, G John Sudheer, Assistant General Manager, HITEX Exhibition Center, said, “Under the leadership of Srikanth T G (Business Head, HITEX Exhibition Center), we aim to encourage and support innovators in sustainability, waste management, effluent treatment, recycling, and air pollution control. To achieve this, we have also dedicated a separate ‘Startup Innovation Arena’ for these innovators to showcase their solutions and engage directly with visitors.”

A Glasshouse for Innovation
The Startup Innovation Arena witnessed the participation of around 30 exhibitors sprouting from different parts of India. These exhibitors showcased fresh ideas through equipment, services, and products that offered pioneering solutions, making it a key event for promoting eco-sustainability.

To hit the nail on the head, the arena was a crowd-pleaser with breakthroughs in air pollution control, reducing carbon footprint, and recycling methods, with a special focus on solid waste management and water conservation—two crucial fields in the fight against climate change.

Waste Management Solutions
Triangle Innovation Pvt Ltd introduced a new cleaning machine manufactured for waste management, the iCleanX. Prakash Hosadurga, Director, Triangle Innovation Pvt Ltd, explained how this sweeping machine replaces traditional brooms, making road, industrial, and commercial cleaning more efficient.

The iCleanX features an ergonomic design with no battery or engines and noise-free operation. The machine effectively removes dust, debris, leaves, nuts & bolts, paper & plastic, and contaminants from small or large spaces.

In a similar vein, EcoOrbit Solutions provided automation solutions for waste management using advanced smart robots. Abhishek Gorle, Founder & CEO, EcoOrbit Solutions, explained that these robots are designed to separate materials on conveyor belts based on their composition, value, or mass. This futuristic solution is capable of segregating 1 tonne of waste per day, thus reducing the sorting costs in waste management processes for clients.

Furthering the impact on waste management, Avris Environment Technologies LLP displayed a biological food waste treatment system that processes waste and generates fertilizer. Bharath Vetriivel, Director, Avris Environment Technologies LLP, highlighted the company’s product, CHUGG, which treats food waste at source, generating byproducts such as biogas, which can replace LPG, and liquid fertilizer, which can be used as manure.

Air Pollution Solutions
Among the stellar lineup of innovators was Kardle Industries Pvt Ltd. This biotechnology-based startup showcased, AERSAFE, a next-gen mobile air purification and carbon capture system integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing for quick, comprehensive data monitoring.

Parameshwar Babu, Mentor & Co-Founder, Kardle Industries Pvt Ltd, outlined the purpose of the product. “AERSAFE can eradicate viruses and 98 percent of bacteria,” he stated. It can also reduce fine particulate matter like PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10, which can trigger allergy or asthma symptoms.

Additionally, speaking on its industrial applications, he noted that it captures carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and eliminates toxic gases, thereby safeguarding the environment and the health of industrial workers.

Shifting the focus to another innovative booth, Aathma Pranavaayu Pvt Ltd, a Chennai-based clean-tech startup, specializes in indoor air purifiers. According to Dr S Rajalakshmi, Co-Founder & Director, Aathma Pranavaayu Pvt Ltd, “People tend to think that outdoor air is more polluted; however, indoor air is four to five times more polluted.”

She attributed this to pollutants like paints, lipsticks, perfumes, and other volatile organic compounds. The company’s purifiers offer a unique solution by using biomass to exchange toxins with nutrients.

Expanding on the company’s solutions, UmaMahesh B, Co-Founder & Director, Aathma Pranavaayu Pvt Ltd, introduced Prana, a green wall system that converts any wall into a breathable surface. This product is especially beneficial in poorly ventilated environments as it can reduce CO2 levels to less than 500 parts per million (PPM).

Effluent Treatment Solutions
Prasinos Tech Innovations Pvt Ltd is a Hyderabad-based clean-tech startup that focused on improving water quality and aeration in waste treatment plants through smart algae control and NanoCav Bubble Technology, among others.

Dr Aditi Mullick, Founder & Managing Director, Prasinos Tech Innovations Pvt Ltd went into detail about the SwanCav-Edge device, a smart-algae control system. She described it as a solar-powered algae control buoy that emits low-powered, eco-friendly ultrasonic waves to inhibit algae growth and improve water quality. “A single SwanCav-Edge system can cover an area of up to 15 acres of water surface,” she further mentioned.

In addition to algae control systems, Mullick introduced the NanoCav Blister-Cloud, an advanced nanobubble technology. This advanced device serves as an aeration system by infusing pure oxygen into water in the form of nanobubbles. Applications for the system can be effluent treatment plants (ETPs) or sewage treatment plants (STPs).

Broadening the scope of effluent treatment solutions, SNP Water Infra Pvt Ltd showcased sludge dewatering, thickening, and related equipment like screw presses and dissolved air flotation (DAF) clarifier systems.

Introducing a new arrival to the company’s product range, Vargheese M D, Director, SNP Water Infra Pvt Ltd revealed the sludge dryer (paddle dryer). The machine dries and sterilizes sludge at low temperatures of 150 degrees Celsius. The wedge-type stirring blades allow the machine to process materials with up to 85 percent moisture or wet cake to produce a dry powder.

Water Treatment & Management Solutions
Euro Detox specializes in sub-surface jet aeration systems and mixers that aim to improve water treatment efficiency. GVNC Pavan Kumar, Sales Manager, Euro Detox, provided an overview of the jet aeration systems, stating that it replaces the traditional diffusers and surface aerators.

Touching upon the system’s advantages, Kumar mentioned, “It improves oxygen transfer rates while reducing power consumption by 35 percent.” This system is ideal for water tanks in STP plants.

At the Eontia.ai booth, Sisir Chandra Jonna, CEO, Navariti Innovation, explained the company’s cost-effective artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) solutions. The company provides smart sensor-based solutions for efficient water and energy management. It also offers environment monitoring services and sewage treatment, integrated with data collection and cloud-based control systems.
